BMW ULEZ London Guide: Which BMWs Meet the Zone and What to Check Before You Drive
ULEZ is a TfL rule, not a workshop opinion. This guide covers how to check a BMW, what Euro standard usually means, and why a deleted DPF is a problem even if the charger already billed you.
Use the TfL checker, not a badge
Enter the registration on TfL’s ULEZ vehicle checker. A “320d” badge does not tell you Euro 6 versus Euro 5. We will not guess from the model code in the waiting room. Petrols from the last decade are usually in; older diesels often are not.
Diesels and DPF deletes
A car that was compliant when built can still be a legal and MOT problem if the DPF or SCR was removed. ULEZ cameras look at the database, not your map file. We restore emissions kit; we do not delete it to “save the zone charge”.
iX and PHEV
iX is electric. PHEVs have their own checker result — do not assume. Charge cables and 12V issues are separate from ULEZ. Bring EV/PHEV faults to Forest Road as diagnostics, not as a congestion-charge debate.
Buying in London
If you live in London or commute the A12 into the zone, check the plate before you transfer the keeper. A cheap E90 320d that bills £12.50 a day is not cheap. Factor that next to our PPI.
